The Westin Denver International Airport is Open!

There comes a surreal moment on any project, the moment when countless hours of work and sleepless nights finally come to fruition with countless hours of celebration and a welcome sleepless night. For the Westin Denver International Airport hotel, that moment came Nov. 19, 2015, when Mayor Hancock cut the ribbon, officially declaring the Westin DIA open for business!

The ribbon cutting was a unique spectacle. Two aerialists climbed and performed stunts (think Cirque du Soleil), suspended from the new open-air plaza canopy, with an accompanying time-lapse video showcasing the magnificent transformation of the project, starting as a huge hole in the ground, and growing upward toward the sky — appropriate for the hotel architect’s vision of a bird in flight. The curtain aerialists unhooked the ribbon, and Mayor Hancock formally got the party started.

After partaking in music and drinks in the sky lobby, CIG enjoyed dinner in the magnificent new conference center, before really starting the party with our fearless (or is it shameless?) dancing. We danced, we drank and we celebrated five years of hard work amongst our peers from the Westin and DEN.

CIG was honored to attend the grand opening festivities with the distinguished guests. And let us say from firsthand experience, the new Westin is spectacular. Every room provides a unique and stunning view of the Rocky Mountains or the DEN tents from above. The new plaza provides a seamless connection to the Grand Hall of the Jeppesen terminal and the hotel sky lobby and bar are sure to be a popular meeting spot for visitors (and CIG’ers).

We’ve had our surreal moment opening the hotel, but it’s right back to work as we prepare for the next milestones — a Jan. 9 Gala and the opening of RTD’s University of Colorado Gold Line commuter rail with service from Union Station to DEN coming April 2016. Looking forward to it!
